Geothermal Heating & Cooling Systems
How do Geothermal Systems Work?
Geothermal offers consumers a heating,
cooling, and hot water system that is cost saving, reliable, energy
efficient, and environmentally sound. Geothermal can be used in residential
and commercial applications. Also it can be used under new construction
as well as in existing homes or businesses. Geothermal systems are
highly efficient technology that is fast becoming the most reliable
and competitive heating & cooling
systems available.

Geothermal can cut your home heating & cooling
costs by 50 percent! Also provide your domestic hot water free at the
same time! In Maine, we can set you up on a time of use plan with Central
Maine Power to gain even more efficiency! This is done with radiant heat
only, ask about this via email or phone.
Geothermal systems use less energy than other systems,
helping conserve our natural recourses. They do not produce tons of carbon
dioxide a year like fossil fuel systems which will prolong Global Warming.
There are no pollutants with this system.
Geothermal systems do not rely on outside air. They keep
indoor air cleaner and free of pollens, outdoor pollutants, mold, spores,
and other allergies. If Indoor air quality is a priority to you, consider
Geothermal.
Geothermal is more comfortable than many other systems.
Humidity control can be done with these systems. Also geothermal is not
a dry heat like a conventional hot air system. It is a low temp system
that does not eliminate all humidity in the home. Though it will dehumidify
in the summer when you need dehumidification the most.
Geothermal is one of the most versatile systems. Distribution
can be done in many ways, such as radiant heat, central Air with a ducted
system for both heating & cooling, low temp design baseboard, panel
radiators, floor fan coil units, wall recessed fan coil units, towel
warmers, Hydro Air & more. Also there are water to air packaged
units (Air Handler built into machine),water to water units ( used for
hydronics ) , and split systems ( used when Air Handler is in attic and
heat pump is in basement.)
How do Geothermal Systems Work?

Geothermal systems are electrically powered
systems that take advantage of the earth's relatively constant ground
temperature to provide heating, cooling, and hot water for residential & commercial
buildings. Rather than creating heat like a fossil fuel system , geothermal
moves heat that already exists from one place to another. In the Winter,
the ground heat exchanger collects heat from the ground and delivers
it to the Air or Hydronic delivery system in the home. In the summer,
this cycle reverses and sends the heat from the home to the earth. Geothermal
systems consists of piping in which liquid such as water or antifreeze
is the medium. There are four types of ground loop systems to choose
from: Horizontal, Vertical, Lake, Open. The same loop works for both
heating & cooling.

Horizontal,
Vertical & Lake systems are all closed loop systems.
The heat pump and loop form a sealed pressurized system through which
the liquid medium is circulated. Open loop systems however, are not sealed
and are open on either end to obtain the liquid medium (water), from
an existing well, and to discharge it when it gets too cold or warm.
Horizontal
and Vertical closed-loop systems are laid horizontally in trenches or
vertically in wells. Both are placed in an area adjacent to the buildings
they serve. These systems can go in yards, under parking lots, or under
playing fields. Pond or lake loops require a nearby body of water with
adequate depth in which to put the loops. Open loops require adequate
water for the needs of the system.
We, Gagnon Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. have been Installing
Geothermal Heating & Cooling Systems Since year 2000. We have a geothermal
project going almost continuously now, and probably install more geothermal
heat pumps than most anyone in the State. We do design work to determine
how much geothermal heat pump you need, as well as radiant heat and Air
system duct design. We also can do a well design for you. Any questions
please email or call.
